October 10 Rollingstones Rocked!I have to admit, the Rolling Stones put on a great performance. If you weren't a fan before, you would be now. Everything about the show was top notch. Fireworks, moving stage, pyrotechnics, you name it, they had it. I couldn't have asked for a better show. I can honestly say that I'll be hard pressed to ever see a show that good again. Overall, it was just a great weekend (with Kirstin coming in for the weekend). Only negative: not enough turkey. Maybe in the long run, that will be a good thing for my mid-section :P. September 25 Turning 25 tomorrow!Well I turn 25 tomorrow, but don't feel any older.... Hopefully getting older is everything that people say it is....
I had an awesome weekend. Went down to see my lovely fiancée this weekend in Minot. Took Thursday off, and surprised her by coming down early. She didn't expect a thing, which was all part of my plan. It’s always tough leaving her, but I think it will all be worth it once she is done school and can support me (while I pursue my career in video games -- she doesn't know about this yet... I'm sure she will be fine with it). She is definately too good to me. Spoiling me with a gourmet spagetti for a birthday supper and pancakes for breakfast one day and cinnimon buns the next. What would I do without her. Regardless, it’s always a great time when I'm with her and hopefully May 26th, 2007 comes quickly.
Anyway, there have been a few new TV shows I've been watching. The "Heroes" premiere was tonight and it was pretty good. Not great, but good. Grey's Anatomy and the Office were up to their usual level as well. Looks like a few new shows I will have to be adding to my weekly PVR list.
If you want to see some lovely pictures of my fiancée and me, please view her space here. September 21 proud owner of safinuk.comThis story goes back a ways... where do I start. In 2002, I went to purchase safinuk.com to have as my personal web space. Thinking no one in their right mind would want to own such a rare domain name, I was not in any hurry to register it. When I did go to register the domain, I found that someone in the Czech republic bought the domain. Obviously I was a little confused, but assumed that whoever bought it must be in some relation to me. After a few emails, I found that the domain name was purchased for a company called "Safin" that was based in the "UK". Essentially a unlikely coincidence. Up until 2005, they did not develop anything on the page, so it sat there. I contacted the company and asked them about the possibility of transferring the domain name. They replied back that they were not going to renew the domain and it would be available soon. Well I waited for it to expire and become available... and waited.. and waited (the "expiry date" is different from when it is available... when a domain expires, it takes up to 90 days for it to become available... its basically to allow whoever owns the domain to repurchase it incase they forgot to renew). I checked every morning and then one morning I noticed that it went from not available to owned by name.com overnight. I was a little upset that I missed the chance and even more perplexed that another company would want the domain. I went from upset to irate when I found out that they wanted upwards of $90 for the rights to the domain. So basically I let it sit there confident no one else would buy it. It would expire in a year and I would be able to purchase it then. This month, I noticed that it was set to expire soon, so again I monitored the domain name. At the beginning of the month I noticed that it was renewed until 2007. Well this led me to contacting name.com and basically wanting to know why on earth anyone would want safinuk.com. I said that it was a waste of money to keep renewing a domain that cannot possibly be worth holding onto by anyone that doesn't have the last name Safinuk. They replied with the following: Dear Chris, We have contacted the holder of the domain name regarding your email, and the fact that the domain is your last name. The domain holder has asked us to assist with the transfer of this domain name to you. All you will have to do is create a Name.net account. You can do this for free by clicking on the "my account" tab located on our home page. Once the account has been created, please provide us with the username of the account. We will be able to assist with the transfer of the domain name at that time. Thank you, Name.net Surprised? Very. I didn't think all it would take was a basic email asking them nicely to transfer the domain. And sure enough, it was transferred to me today. Didn't cost me a dime and better yet, it is renewed to 2007. I am very excited about this only because it has taken so freakin long to get a domain that I should have had in 2002. Anyway, that's my good news for the day. September 06 Accepted!Well I just found out today that I was accepted to the University of Alberta's School of business to take my Masters in Business Administration (MBA). I was hoping to be accepted for this September, but due to circumstances beyond my control I had to defer my entry to September 2007 (as September is the only entry date). I also had to make the difficult decision to resign from my current graduate program. I just don't think my interests are in computer science long term. I guess only time will tell if I made the right decision, but right now I am very excited about moving to Edmonton in 2007. September 05 Go Riders Go!Oh man.... do Rider games get expensive or what? What do you mean $5 a drink! Anyway, it was all worth it cause the Riders won. Can't really tell you much about the game other than that.... Seems like I wasn't swayed by the cost per drink after all. Lets see if the riders can use this momentum to string a couple games in a row.
On another note, Steve Smith in Madden 2007 is unstoppable. 350+ yards, 10 receptions, 6 TDs. Unfortunately for Bill , he had to be at the other end of this clinic that Smith was putting on. Time to move up from all-pro to madden me thinks. August 31 Beerfest!Went to see beerfest on the sunday.... best comedy of the year by far... don't question my judgement, just go see it. You can thank me later. If you disagree, then let me know. |
